"Mascots of the Inn" is a 12x12 oil on canvas, my entry for Best in Show 2014, an exhibit of animal art by local artists to benefit the Roanoke Valley SPCA. At least 50 percent commission will be donated to the RVSPCA, or artists can choose to donate 100 percent of the proceeds (as in my case). While contemplating what to paint for this year's entry, we stayed at The Inn on Campbell in Downtown Roanoke on New Year's Eve. Upon our departure on New Year's Day, my boyfriend, Douglas Frassa, snapped a photo of The Inn's mascots, Spotswood & Taffy, as they kept watch over Campbell Avenue out of the storefront window they frequently occupy. I knew then that my search for this year's subject matter was over.
