The cardinal is the state bird of Virginia, the state in which I have lived all of my life. I hope you enjoy this 8x8 oil painting on canvas paper. My thanks go out to Freda Austin Nichols, photographer of the reference photo used for this painting.

Such a nice job on the cardina Donna. You captured him perfectly. Isn't is funny that the male is the colorful beautiful bird and the female is a bit drab. Your backgrounds are always so interesting and creative, just right for the main topic of your painting.
